"The flood disaster confirmed that we urgently need more climate protection," said Wolff to the newspapers of the editorial network in Germany (RND, Wednesday editions). In addition, it has become clear that "a lot of climate adaptation measures will be necessary", for example rain retention basins or less surface sealing.
Wolff complained that politicians were dishonest with regard to climate protection. She referred to the criticism of the Green Chancellor candidate Annalena Baerbock and the debate about a fuel price increase of 16 cents in total. "Anyone who is currently talking about the need to increase gasoline prices, for example, has to be careful not to be completely discredited by their political opponents," she said.
The next federal government must "unleash regenerative power generation", demanded Wolff.
In future, all available areas for the expansion of renewable energies would have to be exhausted.
"Up until now we had a policy of preventing land in some countries," criticized Wolff.
"That has to change. It is no longer possible for politicians to plead across the board for more climate protection and, at the same time, to de facto block the expansion of renewables."
In order to achieve the climate target of net climate neutrality by 2045, the expansion paths for wind and solar energy would have to be "significantly increased", demanded Wolff.
