The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) announced the removal of the English city of Liverpool from its World Heritage List after years of development work near its Victorian-era ports.
Reuters quoted UNESCO as saying on its Twitter account after a vote in China by members of the World Heritage Committee that Liverpool should be removed from the list.
With this vote, Liverpool lost its status as one of the world heritage sites it has enjoyed since 2004, which placed it in the ranks of famous sites such as the Taj Mahal and the Great Wall of China.
