Good news for hikers and day trippers: The Wolfratshauser Hütte is open again - even if operations are still somewhat restricted due to the corona.

Wolfratshausen / Leermos

- The Wolfratshauser Hütte has had new tenants since last year: Andreas and Mathias Lehner from near Linz. Father and son fulfill their lifelong dream here, high above Ehrwald and Leermos. But the start was not easy, the winter season was canceled due to Corona. The situation appears to be easing in time for summer. The hut on the Grubigstein has been open again since May 21st. This is also good news because there is an anniversary coming up in 2021.

The number of guests was recently manageable, as the railways have not run for a long time and the often complex requirements will certainly put some off.

Some hikers still find their way to the hut.

"We are currently refraining from events because we cannot plan this way under the current conditions," says Andreas Lehner.

Also, the capacity of the hut cannot be fully used due to the requirements.

"At the moment we are only allowed to occupy 50 percent of the sleeping places in the camp." Groups are accommodated as a whole in one room, all other hikers only in separate rooms.

This represents a challenge for the new start, but: “All in all, it's okay,” says the hut owner optimistically.

Around 30 guests were at the hut for the solstice celebration on June 19, says Gerhard Hofmann, the board of the DAV Wolfratshausen section.

“The atmosphere with the surrounding solstice fires in this dreamlike setting is unique.” The mountain mass is also on the program in September and the 100th anniversary celebration in October.

Hut owners and the Alpine Club section hope that these events can take place as planned.

The hut is relatively easy to reach thanks to the Grubigstein cable car.

It is also a good starting point for further hikes.

The opening times are usually from mid-May to mid-October and from mid-December to mid-April.

The hut offers visitors 16 dormitories, 28 mattress dormitories, one large and three smaller dining rooms.

Particularly spectacular: the panorama terrace with an unobstructed view of the Zugspitze.
