The previous generation would think that sports can only be regarded as hobbies and cannot be "meal", but the times have changed. It seems that sports therapists, sports coaches, and professional recreation management jobs have become a profession, and the demand for manpower in the market has also increased. See eagerly.

Graduates of the "Bachelor of Social Sciences (Honours) in Sports and Recreation Management" program at the Technological and Higher Education Institute of Hong Kong (THEi): Sports therapist Max Yang (Max) and Lu Xiyan, who is responsible for event planning and marketing in Hong Kong Cricket Heiley) will share with you the experience of successfully turning sports hobbies and enthusiasm into their own life goals and entering the sports industry.

Sports Therapist Courses Eye-opening Internship Opportunities Lay a Good Foundation

Many people confuse the difference between a physical therapist and a sports therapist. Max refers to a cooperative relationship between the two when dealing with injuries. The sports therapist mainly assists patients in the middle and late stages of rehabilitation to return to the level of exercise as soon as possible, including hands. Treatment and rehabilitation exercises can reduce the risk of re-injury.

Max, who has loved playing football and running since he was a child, admits that he first took the Bachelor of Social Sciences (Honours) in Sports and Recreation Management (SRM) course at THEi purely because of his passion for sports and his belief that sports therapists can help those in need After attending class, he became more interested in the content of the course. "At the beginning, I thought there would be less exercise subject theory. However, subjects such as manual therapy and sports injury rehabilitation will learn a lot about exercise science, anatomy, etc. The science knowledge of other subjects made me feel eye-opening.” In addition to theory, THEi courses also focus on the practice of skills and techniques. Taking the SRM course as an example, the course requires each student to complete 250 hours of internship before graduation. Max It also refers to the internship process that year has gained a lot of valuable experience, and even the current job opportunities are also obtained because of the internship that day.

He said: "In addition to working and studying with physiotherapists in clinics, I would also go to different venues such as rugby, tennis and other competition venues to deal with different types of injured parts, which allowed me to accumulate more diversified treatment experience. In the future, I will be able to use the knowledge I have learned handily in my work. Fortunately, I met the boss of the current company during a Hong Kong Open Golf Championship and got a job opportunity after graduation!"

Max's company needs to go abroad or work in China from time to time. In addition to becoming friends with athletes from different countries, he also has the opportunity to experience different sports cultures.

One of Max’s deepest work was to go to Bangladesh with the Hong Kong cricket team. Although the local environment is very backward, he attaches great importance to cricket. In addition to the international quality of the cricket court, he also has the highest quality for Hong Kong cricket players. Regarding specifications.

"Current work mainly follows athletes to competitions in different countries. From this, we can see different sports cultures. During the competition, because we help athletes from different countries, we will become friends with them." Max points to the work of a sports therapist. In addition to the sense of success created by helping the athletes, you can also get many unexpected experiences. For example, there are fewer competitions under the epidemic, but in turn, more Hong Kong people try to do sports, such as hiking, running, etc., so that sports therapists are emerging. The demand for professional manpower has increased, and Max has returned to school as a guest lecturer to train his younger siblings, hoping to share the latest technology and experience in the industry with his younger generations, so that more people who love sports can join the industry.

Sports enthusiasm changes the direction of life and promotes sports as personal goals

Heiley's success in developing her hobby into a career is believed to be the envy of many people. She said that the most important thing for this year's DSE graduates is to recognize their own development direction, and whether the content of the course is suitable for them is more important than everything.

"The feeling of hitting a ball is exciting!" This is how Heiley, who is currently working in Hong Kong cricket, felt when she first encountered cricket on an event day at THEi. Since then, she has also devoted herself to the world of cricket and changed her direction of development.

Heiley has participated in triathlon races since the age of 11, and later fell in love with long-distance running. After graduating from DSE, she originally took an associate degree in marketing, but because of the burning of "sports fire" in her heart, she decided to transfer to THEi. In the third year of the Bachelor of Social Sciences in Sports and Recreation Management (Honours) program, and making good use of the original business knowledge, I chose "Recreation Management" as a specialization area. I learned a lot of methods to promote sports activities during the classroom and internships. Before entering the fourth grade, I had an internship in a company that specializes in sports activities during the summer vacation. I had to help organize large-scale sports competitions. During the process, I had to communicate with different sports brands and even deal with the layout of the venue. Fortunately, THEi learned The theory and skills of cricket helped me a lot.” Later, I fell in love with cricket. In addition to working hard to become a cricket coach, Heiley was also determined to promote this sport less known by Chinese people in Hong Kong. With a degree in sports and recreation management, he finally I was successfully hired by the Cricket Association. In addition to filming short films, editing videos, and operating social media, I also need to write press releases. I fully utilize the sports promotion knowledge I learned while studying, and I have also succeeded in putting my favorites into practice. Cricket becomes part of the profession.

At the beginning of joining the Hong Kong women’s cricket team, Heiley knew that he was inexperienced and frustrated compared to the players who had been in contact with cricket since childhood. However, after continuous hard work, she was more successful in getting the coaching license. She also put this athlete spirit on her. At work now.
