The disaster areas in western Germany, which were badly affected by the floods, fear new rains.
The weather outlook for the next few days is worrying.
Munich - Many regions in western Germany are still like a heap of rubble.
The fatal flood, which especially in North Rhine-Westphalia and Rhineland-Palatinate caused chaos and destruction, claimed more than 170 deaths (as of July 22).
While the local people are trying to process what they have experienced and rebuild, the current outlook for the weather in Germany is worrying.
Low “Dirk” replaces high “Dana” and ensures renewed rainfall from the west.
“This low brings us on Saturday and Sunday widespread showers and thunderstorms.
These thunderstorms bring heavy rain in places, also in the flood areas, ”said meteorologist Dominik Jung from
Wetter.net
.
At the weekend, the German Weather Service (DWD) in North Rhine-Westphalia expects rain showers and thunderstorms, sometimes with heavy rain.
“It can theoretically and selectively go into the storm area,” predicted the DWD.
Weather forecast for Germany: Rainfalls in North Rhine-Westphalia and Rhineland-Palatinate at the weekend
Accordingly, the sun will initially shine in NRW on Friday.
Especially in the southwest it should be sunny and summery.
But already on Saturday, according to the DWD, clouds are forming from the southwest.
That brings the first rain in the Eifel, in the course of the afternoon the precipitation should spread further.
In addition, thunderstorms must be expected on Friday and Saturday, said a DWD meteorologist on Thursday.
Not good news for the Rhineland-Palatinate disaster areas either.
The DWD expects heavy rain and thunderstorms in Rhineland-Palatinate and Saarland.
Heavy rain can also occur there.
However, it is not yet foreseeable where exactly this will come down.
Weather forecast for Germany: thunderstorms in North Rhine-Westphalia and Rhineland-Palatinate continue
The weather will change there on Saturday. In Rhineland-Palatinate, clouds then come up, said the DWD betting expert. The first shower-like rain should be around noon in the west. The whole of Rhineland-Palatinate would then be affected by rain showers in the afternoon. On Sundays, local thunderstorms can form during the day, explained the DWD.
Overall, however, the recent rainfalls cannot be compared with the weather conditions that led to the flood disaster in North Rhine-Westphalia and Rhineland-Palatinate and parts of Bavaria just under a week ago.
The forecast thunderstorms pull through this time.
As a result, the rainfall is not as high and concentrated in certain regions as it was a week ago.
"Nothing large-scale is expected, as is the case a week ago when this extreme tide struck the west," said meteorologist Jung, giving the all-clear.
