The Palestinian Ministry of Foreign Affairs welcomed the formation of the ongoing independent international investigation committee, which came in implementation of the Palestine resolution in the Human Rights Council regarding the Israeli aggression against the Palestinian people.
“The committee will look into all violations of humanitarian law and international human rights law since April 13, 2021, as well as all the root causes behind them, including systematic discrimination and identity-based oppression,” Wafa Agency quoted the ministry as saying in a statement, stressing the importance of establishing accountability mechanisms for Israeli violations and crimes and identification of those responsible.
The statement affirmed the readiness of the State of Palestine to provide all the information required to confront the crimes of the Israeli occupation and its violations committed against the Palestinians, including forced displacement, aggression, discrimination, siege, killing and demolition, calling on the international community to facilitate the work of the committee, end the Israeli occupation, implement international law and protect Palestinian human rights.
On May 27, the United Nations Human Rights Council adopted a resolution to form an independent international commission of inquiry on the Israeli aggression in the Palestinian territories and to ensure respect for international humanitarian law and international human rights law in the occupied Palestinian territories, including East Jerusalem and the territories occupied in 1948.
