The Joe Biden government sanctioned a senior Cuban official and the regime's special forces unit, known as the Black Berets, for what it says are human rights abuses after the historic protests on the island.
Álvaro López Miera, Cuban Minister of Beloved Forces, was linked by the White House to the "repression of peaceful demonstrations."
Bruno Rodríguez, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Cuba, rejected the measure and classified the sanctions as "unfounded and slanderous."
