Moosburg

- When sudden masses of water cause mud, destruction and suffering, quick and solidary help is required.

The Moosburg aid organization Navis, which set out for a disaster response on Sunday, was able to put drinking water treatment into operation on Monday for the residents of the Ahrweiler district affected by the flood.

After the arrival of the first eleven-strong Navis team, work began early on Monday morning.

Contact was made with the local operations management and the situation was investigated.

The first task was to find a suitable place for the base camp and for drinking water treatment.

In the course of the day, a job was found in Ahrbrück.

Clean drinking water was then quickly produced.

The team describes the situation on site as "war-like".

River water becomes clean drinking water

On Tuesday, the on-site operations management decided that the Navis team would also operate the remaining drinking water treatment plants in the immediate vicinity of the base camp.

All devices were put into operation during the day.

Thousands of liters of river water are taken for treatment, converted into drinking water in the treatment plants and then fed into the local drinking water network of the Ahrweiler district.

In addition, drinking water is treated, which can be taken and used on site by residents and emergency personnel.

A “shower street” could also be put into operation at the base camp, which is made available to the numerous private and professional helpers.

Preparations for the next team are in progress

The contact and cooperation between the Navis team, the local operations management and the aid organizations runs smoothly. The Navis team, which ensures the necessary support from Moosburg or from the home office, is in close contact with the comrades in Ahrbrück - even if the availability of the mobile network in the disaster area is still far from being given across the board. In Moosburg, plans for the replacement of the first team and the formation of a second team are also progressing.

In Adenau, among other things, five drinking water treatment plants are in use, three of which have an output of 5000 liters per hour.

In April 2021, Kärcher Futuretech donated accessories for drinking water treatment to Navis worth 7,800 euros.

In view of the devastating situation on site, Kärcher Futuretech was now able to spontaneously provide a processing plant.

Supported by the Medical Disaster Relief Organization Germany e.

V. from Munich, representatives of both organizations were able to receive the urgently needed donation on site at Kärcher Futuretech and transport it directly to the Navis team in the Ahrweiler district free of charge.

There the system is already in continuous use together with other equipment.

Urgent assistance needed

As those responsible at Navis emphasize, experience shows that the life, health and livelihood of the people affected are particularly threatened in the early and unstable phases of disasters.

For this work, the Moosburg organization depends on donations in order to be able to help quickly and courageously at any time.

Donations are urgently needed, especially for ongoing operations, in order to be able to secure the procurement and operation of further drinking water treatment plants.
