Four former "Apple Daily" senior editors, including former executive editor-in-chief Lin Wenzong and former deputy president Chen Peimin, were accused of violating the "Hong Kong National Security Law" and charged with "conspiracy to collude with foreign countries or endanger national security by foreign forces." After being detained overnight for investigation, they were escorted to the West Kowloon Court this morning (22nd) by officers of the National Security Department of the police.

The charges are that they and the founder of Next Media Li Zhiying, etc., conspired to request foreign organizations to sanction China and Hong Kong.

The prosecution opposed the defendant’s release on bail and requested that the case be postponed until September 30 for further hearing.

The defendants are now applying for bail.

The four defendants include: Yang Qingqi (former chief writer, signed "Li Ping"), Chen Peimin (female, former vice president), Feng Weiguang (former English version executive) and Lin Wenzong (former executive editor).

They were accused of conspiring in Hong Kong with Apple Daily Co., Ltd., Apple Daily Printing Co., Ltd., Apple Internet Co., Ltd., Zhang Jianhong, Luo Weiguang, Li Zhiying and others between July 1, 2020 and April 3, 2021. , Requesting foreign or overseas institutions, organizations, and personnel to impose sanctions, blockades, or other hostile actions against the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region or the People's Republic of China.

The prosecution wanted to adjourn the case because there are a large number of electronic equipment to be tested, including computers, servers and phones, and there are 25 boxes of documents and nearly 1,000 items, and some personal and institutional financial data need to be checked.
