They met at a dance event in 1949, and now Edeltraud and Michael Bichler were able to celebrate their iron wedding.

You have been married for 65 years.

Mammendorf - Michael Bichler, who was born in Oberweikertshofer, saw his future wife for the first time at a dance in his home town - and immediately took a liking to Edeltraud Worm.

He played the saxophone that day.

And since we first looked at the music, “we haven't lost sight of each other,” says the couple.

The two built a house in Nannhofen: “We put everything together on our own and even dug the ground ourselves.” With a wink, the trained bricklayer remembers that the finished home was, so to speak, the prerequisite for becoming his noble dream Was allowed to lead the altar.

In 1956 the time had come.

The wedding bells rang on July 14th.

The celebrations took place in the castle restaurant next to the baroque fortress in Nannhofen.

Well over 120 guests came to the wedding.

The couple got involved in the place.

Both were active members of the Mammendorf Choral Society for decades.

Michael Bichler is still today.

In addition, the 88-year-old was part of the Hubertusschützen in Oberschweinbach and worked for the veterans club in Munich.

Solo entertainer

Even today, the couple keep fit by making music together.

“I play the accordion for entertainment,” says Edeltraud Bichler.

The 86-year-old also knits a lot.

"If you sit next to her, you have to be careful not to get knitted in," says Michael Bichler with a laugh.

He still goes on bike tours himself - as long as his legs go along.

In addition, the retired construction supervisor still plays as a solo entertainer at events.

In the meantime, the anniversaries are also challenged in other ways: In the past five years, four great-grandchildren were born.

The celebration of the Iron Wedding had to be a little smaller due to the pandemic: Nevertheless, around 30 friends and relatives came to the party at the Gasthaus Mösl in Germerswang.

Son Wilfried, who has played with the Isartaler brass band for decades, organized a performance in front of the pub for the cheering couple: "That was a big surprise," the couple said happily.

So what is the secret of such a long marriage?

Edeltraud and Michael Bichler have a clear answer to this question: “In difficult times you have to support each other,” they say.

And even if the schedule was often full: “We always showed consideration for each other.” MATTHIAS KAST
