London Mayor Jian Shide welcomes Hong Kong immigrants and says grants to help them adapt to new life

The number of Hong Kong immigrants to the UK is increasing. The Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, welcomes Hong Kong residents to settle there and said that the city government will allocate 900,000 pounds to help them solve housing, school and job search problems.

Jian Shide said that more than 34,000 Hong Kong residents have applied for BNO visas, but due to the epidemic, many people still have not left for the UK.

He believes that about one-quarter to one-third of the applicants will be based in London, but the current situation is still in the preliminary stage.

The Mayor of London, Jian Shide, was interviewed on July 22 and said that he welcomes Hong Kong people to immigrate to the local area.

He pointed out that London would warmly welcome the arrival of Hong Kong people, saying that this is local history for decades, and he felt that he had a moral responsibility to assist them.

Affected by Brexit and the epidemic, tens of thousands of people have left London, so there are record-breaking job vacancies.

Jian Shide stated that the city government will cooperate with community organizations to provide assistance for Hong Kong people to adapt to local life.

However, he admitted that hate crimes against Chinese and Asian people in the city have increased since January 2020 when the epidemic began to erupt globally, but the situation has now declined.

The UK will provide a new visa program for BNO holders in 2020. Applicants can apply for naturalization after living in the UK for 5 years.

The British government estimates that there will be approximately 123,000 to 153,000 Hong Kong residents applying this year, and there may be a maximum of 322,000 applicants in the next five years.
