Attorney General Avichai Mandelblit ruled today (Thursday) that the rejection of Prof. Oded Goldreich's candidacy for the Israel Prize was wrong. Mandelblitt filed the petition dealt with the position Former education minister's decision, Yoav Galant, who rejected the recommendation of the Award Committee, and chose not to Goldrajch the prize in the study of mathematics, due to alleged support for a boycott of Israeli institutions.

Position constituting a precedent, the Attorney General stated that A call for a boycott of the State of Israel or its institutions can be used as a relevant and legitimate consideration in making a decision regarding the awarding of the Israel Prize, but because in Goldreich's case, his actions "are not sufficient to meet the high standard required to disqualify him."

Mandelblit justified his decision by saying that these were individual actions, with the exception of one, which happened many years ago. This, along with other considerations outlined in the position, from which it follows that this is not an up-to-date, repetitive activity that can fall under the definition of extreme and exceptional cases.
