Chancellor Angela Merkel (CDU) used her summer press conference on Thursday in Berlin for an urgent appeal for more vaccinations against the corona virus.
"The more people are vaccinated, the freer we will be again," said the Chancellor.
She warned of another deterioration in the face of the exponentially growing number of infections.
Even those who hesitated should consider: "Each vaccination is a small step towards more protection for everyone," Merkel said.
Therefore, everyone who is already convinced and vaccinated should advertise more vaccination protection in their family and friends or at work.
"We all want our normality back, but we can only get it back as a community," said the Chancellor.
The renewed strong increase in infections, the number of which doubles regularly, was described by Merkel as "dramatic".
Therefore, precautionary measures would have to continue and increasingly be observed.
"Regular testing must and will play an increasingly important role again," said the Chancellor.
This applies above all to stays indoors, but also to schools and daycare centers.
After all, vaccination is already helping to cope better with higher incidences without overloading the health system, because "people are well protected from a serious or fatal outcome".
The Robert Koch Institute (RKI) will first develop scenarios for the consequences of this and then advise politicians on further action.
