In memory of the first victim of the NSU attacks, the Nuremberg city council named the “Enver-Şimşek-Platz”.

Unveiling is scheduled for September 13, 2021.

Nuremberg - The city council decided on Wednesday (July 21) to name the square on Liegnitzer Strasse at Schreiberhauer Strasse as "Enver-Şimşek-Platz".

This is intended to remind of the assassination attempt on Enver Şimşek.

Mayor Marcus König will unveil the street sign on September 13 at a commemorative event, according to a press release from the Nuremberg City Hall.

Lord Mayor Marcus König says: “We are fulfilling a specific wish of the family, which still feels connected to Nuremberg.

It is important to the city of Nuremberg and to me personally that we stay in touch with the families and the bereaved and include their wishes in our memorial work.

That is part of our responsibility. "

Nuremberg commemorates Enver: he was the NSU's first murder victim

Enver Şimşek was the first murder victim of the right-wing extremist terror group "National Socialist Underground" (NSU), which murdered ten people between 2000 and 2007.

Among them were two men from Nuremberg.

Nuremberg economics and science advisor Dr.

Michael Fraas adds: "The naming of the place after Enver Şimşek at the crime scene in Nuremberg makes the memory of his person as a victim of right-wing extremist terror immediately visible and helps to keep the memory alive."

Enver Şimşek was born on December 4, 1961 in Salur (Isparta Province, Turkey) and came to Germany at the age of 24.

He lived with his wife and two children in Schlüchtern in Hesse.

There he operated several mobile flower stalls.

One of them was also in Nuremberg.

On September 9, 2000, Enver Şimşek at the corner of Liegnitzer Strasse and Schreiberhauer Strasse in Nuremberg was hit by eight gunshots while he was sorting flowers in his delivery van.
