Customs investigators discovered two fully automatic assault rifles and unregistered pistols without serial numbers in a man's apartment in Cologne.
As the customs investigation office in Essen announced on Thursday, the man had made himself suspicious of a mail with a laser sighting device from China.
The officials therefore moved to a raid.
They found numerous illegal weapons.
The investigators came across two fully automatic military assault rifles and two so-called ghost guns in the 36-year-old's apartment.
These are pistols that were assembled from individual parts and therefore have no serial numbers.
There was also another pistol and accessories such as silencers and target lights.
Since the man stated that the weapons belonged to his 72-year-old father, his apartment in Moers was also searched.
The investigators also came across various rifles, pistols and ammunition.
Both men are now being investigated for violations of the War Weapons Control Act.
According to customs, the raids took place last week.
