The death toll from floods and torrential rains in Germany and Belgium has risen to 207, with thousands considered missing.
Reuters quoted German relief and rescue authorities as saying in a statement today that "more than 170 people died in floods last week in the worst natural disaster in the country in more than half a century, and thousands are missing."
In Belgium, the Belgian Crisis Center announced that the death toll from river floods and torrential rains that occurred last week rose to 37, while six others were considered missing.
The German Insurance Industry Association had estimated yesterday that the value of the damage caused by the devastating floods that swept parts of the country last week at five billion euros.
