The location of Zhen Shan Mei Village is close to the former Kai Tak Airport, so there was a height restriction when it was built, and the height is also higher than that of other housing estates in the same period. In 2018, Chief Executive Carrie Lam Cheng Yuet-ngor pointed out that due to the relocation of the airport, there is no height limit in the Kowloon City District.

The location of Zhen Shan Mei Village is close to the former Kai Tak Airport, so there was a height restriction when it was built, and the height is also higher than that of other housing estates in the same period.

In 2018, Chief Executive Carrie Lam Cheng Yuet-ngor pointed out that due to the relocation of the airport and no height restrictions in the Kowloon City District, it is recommended that some old housing estates in the area be rebuilt. However, the current government has not announced the redevelopment of Zhen Shan Mei Village and the location of resettlement in the future. Announcing the actual timetable, it is only known that the clearance will begin in 2026/27 at the earliest.

A district councillor today (22nd) urged government departments to explain the progress of the redevelopment at the Housing and Development Planning Committee and provide residents with clearer information.

The Kowloon City Housing and Development Planning Committee convened today. Due to the vacancy of the chairman of the committee, under the nomination of Yang Zhenyu and no objection, Zhang Jingxun became the interim chairman of the meeting.

Some district councillors submitted documents earlier to inquire about the progress of the Zhenshanmei Village reconstruction plan, but no relevant department attended the meeting.

Zeng Jianchao, the proponent of the document, said that in the past, residents have received many inquiries about related matters, but now that the department has failed to attend again, there is no further explanation, and the agenda cannot be discussed.

Yang Yongjie said that it is unacceptable that no department will attend the meeting. He believes that the reconstruction time of Zhenshanmei Village will also affect the progress of Lemin New Village in the same district. However, the public knows nothing about when it will be demolished and when it will be moved to Kai Tak. The meeting was renewed and the relevant departments were strongly requested to attend and explain.

He Xianming further suggested that the Secretariat write to the relevant departments, and Ren Guodong added that the content of the letter should be added to request the relevant departments to explain the substantive work carried out on Zhen Shan Mei Village from May to September. He explained that the department did not attend the meeting twice. Related matters are very puzzled.

Yang Zhenyu criticized that the department’s written response was too few, almost copying the content of the last time, suggesting that the topic be reserved for the next meeting, and asked them to explain the reconstruction timetable to give residents clearer information.

Housing Association: Kai Tak 1E1 land used for more than 1,000 units to resettle affected households

In response to enquiries, the Hong Kong Housing Society (HS) stated that Zhenshanmei Village was completed in 1965. In order to improve the living environment of the old village, the Housing Society is planning to rebuild the village.

With the foundation works on the Kai Tak 1E1 site used to house residents of Zhen Shan Mei Village has begun, the Housing Society will prepare a planning study for the reconstruction of Zhen Shan Mei Village, which is now expected to be completed in 2026/27.

According to the current plan, about 2,150 units will be built on the Kai Tak 1E1 site, of which about 1,100 units will be used to rehouse the residents affected by the redevelopment of Zhenshanmei Village.

The Housing Association pointed out that since the redevelopment plan of Zhenshanmei Village is still in the planning and research stage, it has not yet provided specific information, including the details and timetable of the relocation arrangements.
