Today, the Russian judiciary imposed a fine of 5.5 million rubles, equivalent to 74.4 thousand dollars, on the American social networking giant Twitter, for failing to remove content that Russia considers “illegal.”
Russia Today reported that the Tagansky District Court in Moscow had issued a ruling convicting the company of two administrative offenses related to the failure to delete information prohibited in Russia, with a fine of 5.5 million rubles.
Thus, the amount of fines imposed on Twitter by the Russian judiciary rose to 33.4 million rubles.
The ruling came amid a wider crisis between Russian authorities and technology giants, which Moscow is demanding to open offices in Russia and store personal data of Russian users on servers on its territory.
