In the port of Radès, near Tunis, a French navy ship also delivered three tanks filled with liquefied oxygen to cope with the shortage affecting this Maghreb country.
France had already sent Tunisia three oxygen generators in early June for hospitals in Tataouine, Sfax and Sidi Bouzid.
Several countries have provided vaccine doses to Tunisia
“The best recipe for dealing with Covid is to stick together. It is not a single state that can get by, ”said Jean-Baptiste Lemoyne. It must be said that Tunisia is facing a catastrophic epidemic situation after nearly 10,000 daily cases, on average in recent days, in a country of only 12 million inhabitants. Hospitals are overwhelmed and vaccination has only been open to all adults since Tuesday, July 20. Tunis has placed an order for 3.2 million doses of vaccine and is expected to obtain around 5 million by mid-August, the Tunisian Ministry of Health told AFP.
France is not the only country to provide assistance to Tunisia. China, the United States and Saudi Arabia have also provided vaccines. Belgium has made a contribution by sending 150,000 doses of AstraZeneca vaccine and Latvia has promised 50,000 whose expiry date is approaching.
