The Federal Ministry of Health has welcomed the release of Moderna's corona vaccine for minors as well.
"That is good news," said a spokeswoman in Berlin on Friday.
The European Medicines Agency (EMA) had previously approved the vaccine for 12 to 17 year olds - just like the vaccine from Biontech / Pfizer a few weeks ago.
"Every vaccination counts - especially now that the number of infections is rising again," said the Federal Ministry of Health.
"Children and adolescents from the age of twelve are also protected by a vaccination," emphasized the spokeswoman.
Now the federal states could "offer vaccinations even faster" to those children and young people who want to be vaccinated.
In Germany, children and adolescents aged twelve and over have been vaccinated against the coronavirus with the Biontech vaccine since June 7th.
The Standing Vaccination Commission (Stiko) only recommends this if you have certain previous illnesses or other risk factors.
However, there is also criticism of this cautious line of Stiko.
