After the flood disaster, some undertakers in North Rhine-Westphalia and Rhineland-Palatinate apparently lacked transport vehicles.

After the flood disaster, some undertakers in North Rhine-Westphalia and Rhineland-Palatinate apparently lacked transport vehicles.

Düsseldorf - "There is only a very limited number of funeral vehicles that are irreplaceable for the time being," said a spokesman for the North Rhine-Westphalia Undertaker Association on Thursday.

Many of the affected cars were in the garage next to undertakers during the devastating floods and then - just like the shops - were full of water.

However, “they are only missing in individual companies”. One can support one another well, for example by borrowing undamaged transport trolleys from colleagues. According to the spokesman, the vehicles are custom-made and are only produced on request. Therefore it is difficult to replace them. The entire damage is not yet clear.

Undertaker companies of the state association had hit the flood particularly hard in Wuppertal, Ahrweiler, Euskirchen and Hagen.

"We had water with several colleagues in the business premises," reported the spokesman.

However, no cold rooms or the deceased housed there were hit by the floods.

In places that were affected by power outages, for example, colleagues would have picked up the deceased and housed them in the funeral home to cool them down.

Over 1050 undertakers are registered in the state association in North Rhine-Westphalia, according to the information, Rhineland-Palatinate has over 200 member companies.

Flood disaster in Rhineland-Palatinate and North Rhine-Westphalia cost at least 170 people their lives

According to Prime Minister Malu Dreyer (SPD), the flood disaster in Rhineland-Palatinate cost the lives of 128 people according to the current status. 155 people are still missing, Dreyer said on Thursday in a special meeting with members of the state parliament of the committees for the interior, climate and finance, as announced by the state chancellery in Mainz. 764 people are injured and receive medical care.

In North Rhine-Westphalia, nine people in the Rhein-Sieg district and 26 people in the Euskirchen district were killed, according to the Cologne police.

Two dead were reported from Cologne, the police said on Thursday.

"To protect relatives, the police will not publish statements about identity, age, where they were found, place of origin and circumstances of death," the press release said.

A large number of the missing persons cases have been resolved.

The police are currently looking for two people from the Euskirchen district.

The sympathy with those affected is great.

The damage in the flood areas was devastating.
