The Prime Minister's Conference (MPK) is actually planned for the end of August.

Now, however, there is increasing demand for the federal-state meeting to be brought forward.

In the coming week, the prime ministers of the 16 countries could then agree on how to proceed in the corona pandemic.

Bavaria's Prime Minister Markus Söder (CSU) is now open to bringing the conference forward - but he attaches conditions to his willingness.

“I'm open to talking about it.

However, conditions must be created beforehand.

It is not enough to meet for a coffee chat, but then we have to take measures, "said the CSU chief after a retreat by the party executive in Gmund am Tegernsee.

This includes an entry regulation from August 1st and a special vaccination program for schoolchildren.

The federal plan to introduce an entry regulation from September 11th was "pointless" because the summer vacation would be over by then, said Söder.

However, travel in the summer holidays in particular will probably again be a driver of the corona infection numbers.

In addition, the regulation must provide for a test obligation for all returnees, regardless of the country from which they entered.

Söder calls for measures to improve the vaccination rate

With regard to the school vaccinations, Söder emphasized that he knew that the Standing Vaccination Commission was skeptical here, "that is their right," but politicians had to decide.

Now during the holidays there is still the opportunity to organize a vaccination offer for schoolchildren.

In addition, an early conference of prime ministers must decide on measures to improve vaccination rates in the country.

The most decisive incentive are the freedoms that would then be possible.

"If we have not made great progress in vaccination by the beginning of September, then we will have a problem." In this context, a point in time must also be defined from which corona tests would no longer be offered free of charge.

This could be as soon as everyone has received an offer for a vaccination, which is likely to be the case in early or mid-September.

According to the current planning, the MPK should take place at the end of August, but according to Söder there are efforts among the country leaders to bring the conference forward to the coming week.

Söder emphasized that in view of the federal election on September 26th, it was important in any case to lay down clear rules for the autumn, as the federal government would initially only be able to act to a limited extent after the election.
