The robotics team of the Faculty of Engineering of The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) successfully won the championship in this year's "Robot Competition for Tertiary Students in Hong Kong".

A total of 13 teams from 7 universities and colleges participated in this competition. CUHK sent two teams, "Invincible Arrows" and "Invincible Skills", to reach the top four. Among them, "Invincible Arrows" and another team from HKUST Tied for double champions.

After winning the Asia Pacific Championship in 2019, he is expected to represent Hong Kong in international competitions again.

Part of the participating CUHK team members are not majoring in engineering.

Some medical students who participated in the competition said that the team members have their own strengths, division of labor and unremitting efforts are the keys to winning. In the future, they hope to devote themselves to neuroscience research and combine medicine with engineering.

The theme of this competition is the pot throwing game of the Spring and Autumn Period and the Warring States Period. Each participating team needs to design an arrow throwing and a defensive robot match.

Within the time limit of 3 minutes, the competition team must control the arrow-throwing robot and throw the arrow into the team's pot in the field. The defensive robot is responsible for rotating the quiver table in the field to prevent the opponent from entering the pot.

The game is based on the number of arrows in the pot to calculate the score, and the highest score or five arrows with both arrows will win the game.

After multiple rounds of eliminations, both teams from CUHK reached the semi-finals. Among them, "Invincible Arrows" advanced to the final. It was also the team that made the Great Victory in the shortest time in the entire event (that is, the team won the double arrow for all five). .

In the final against the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, "Invincible Arrows" maintained a stable performance. In the end, the two teams were judged to win double championships.

CUHK "Invincible Arrows" won the "Best Performance Award" and the "Best Team Spirit Award" at the same time, becoming the champion of three materials.

Female medical students participated in the online forum "Stealing Teachers" for three consecutive years

Feng Yalei Crystal, one of the members of the winning team, is from the third year of the medical school. This is the third year to participate in Robocon and is responsible for the assembly of robots and programming.

She has a unique explanation of why she participated in the interdisciplinary competition. "In fact, I have already started to participate in robotics competitions in elementary school. Unfortunately, I didn’t have the opportunity to participate in middle school. But when I went to university, I saw Robocon publicity outside the School of Engineering. Leaflet, I decided to participate."

Crystal continued, "In fact, I was struggling at the beginning, especially in the programming and mechanical aspects. However, Haocai has a senior brother to guide me, and I have a forum to understand the difference." Crystal hopes that after graduation, he can learn about medicine and engineering. Combine and devote yourself to neuroscience.

It’s important for the team members to have enough creative space

When it comes to worrying about other teams’ plagiarism, Captain Billy Ye Junhua said with a smile, "It’s not true. Everyone participates in the competition with a mentality of sharing skills. For example, I use a motor to shoot arrows. It’s a lot more accurate, and we will go back to study how people are going to be scared, and exchange scares.”

This year, more than half of the participating team members (17) are new members. Under the major changes in the membership, captain Billy said that giving the team members enough creative space is the most important thing. When everyone needs to complete the same task, but everyone has different ideas, they will allow it. Players can play freely without restrictions. He only needs to set a deadline to achieve the maximum effect.

This year, the Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union Robotics Competition will be held in Qingdao, China, and the team members hope to win the championship again.
