The firefighting teams in As-Suwayda Governorate, in cooperation with the people, put out a large fire that broke out today in agricultural orchards with forest trees spread between the towns of Saleem and Qanawat and caused damage to them.
The commander of the Suwayda Fire Brigade, Fadi Al-Daoud, said in a statement to SANA reporter that the firefighting teams made great efforts to control the fire in the middle of an area of a very rugged nature covered with dry weeds and spread over fruit trees and forests, while the firefighting mechanisms found it difficult to reach some of the sites where the fire was lit Using hand tools, sprinklers, and tanks for the people and farmers to put them out.
Al-Daoud pointed out that the operations to put out the fire took about three hours, with the combined efforts of the elements and mechanisms of the fire brigade, civil defense, the Directorate of Agriculture, the Forestry Department, the people, their mechanisms and equipment, and the necessary cooling operations to prevent the fire from recurring.
In turn, the head of the Forestry Department in the As-Suwayda Agriculture Directorate, Engineer Anas Abu Fakher, explained that the fire affected an area of 100 acres in lands and orchards planted with fruitful trees such as olives, grapes and almonds.
Abu Fakhr pointed out that the extensive spread of dry weeds in the orchards, the blowing of winds, and the lack and narrowness of roads in the area made it difficult to access and deal with the fire before it was completely controlled.
