Regensburg / Leipzig - The former Lord Mayor of Regensburg * Joachim Wolbergs has already been tried twice over allegations of corruption.

Now the first corruption process is being reopened by the Federal Court of Justice (BGH).

As a BGH spokeswoman said on Friday, the case will be heard on November 4 at the Leipzig headquarters of the court.

Wolbergs, who was once mayor for the SPD in the Upper Palatinate city, has already been charged twice with other accused on corruption charges before the Regensburg district court.

The last verdict against him was in June 2020 on a corruption case.

At that time he received a one-year suspended sentence.

The background was party donations.

Corruption process around ex-Mayor Wolbergs reopened before the Federal Court of Justice

Wolbergs had previously been convicted of two cases of advantage in another trial, whereby the court did not impose a penalty.

Several other allegations against him had been dropped in both trials.

The revision hearing at the BGH should now initially concern the first judgment from July 2019.

The former mayor resigned from the SPD *; instead, he has been a member of the city council for the “Brücke” voter association he co-founded since the last local election in 2020.
