Erlangen - In the Erlangen * district of Frauenaurach, false police officers defrauded a pensioner out of 27,000 euros in cash and jewelry on Tuesday (July 20).

Witnesses are now being sought, as the police in Middle Franconia * announced in a press release. 

On Tuesday morning, an alleged police officer called a pensioner in Lessingstrasse.

The scammers alleged that a close family member caused a fatal road accident.

For the release, a bail of tens of thousands of euros must now be deposited.

The elderly lady believed so and went to her bank to withdraw 26,000 euros.

Since this amount of money was not enough for the alleged deposit, the pensioner added another 1,000 euros in cash and various items of jewelry. 

In the late afternoon, a fake police officer came to the pensioner's home to collect the "bail".

She handed over the money and jewelry to the hitherto unknown perpetrator, who fled. 

Erlangen: The wrong police officer can be described as follows 

  • Approximately 1.70-1.75 meters tall

  • 40-45 years old

  • short / dark hair

  • thick stature 

Two days after the crime, family members of the lady discovered the fraud and filed a complaint with the police.

The total damage amounts to around 31,000 euros. 

The commissioner for trick fraud at the Nuremberg criminal police investigates and asks for information from the population.

Witnesses who noticed suspicious people or vehicles in the afternoon hours in the Frauenaurach area are asked to contact the police.
