The death toll from landslides and torrential rains that inundated low-lying areas in western India, especially Maharashtra, has risen to 112.
Reuters quoted the Chief Minister of Maharashtra as saying today: “59 people were killed in the state, in addition to 38 others in Tali, southeast of Mumbai, after a landslide flattened most of the houses of the small village, except for 15 other people who were victims of rain-related accidents. torrential rains and floods.”
Government officials said authorities had raised the alert status in the southern states of Karnataka and Telangana after rivers overflowed, while rescue teams continued their search for missing persons in affected areas with the help of the Indian army and navy.
An earlier toll had indicated that 37 people had died due to floods and landslides in India.
