The delta variant is increasingly causing increasing numbers of corona infections in popular holiday countries.

Some are now threatened with being classified as a high incidence area.

Actually, many Germans are still on their summer vacation - but in many places in Europe the Corona situation is already worsening again.

The reason is the highly contagious Delta variant paired with numerous relaxations, which is now noticeable.

Great Britain, Portugal and Cyprus are already high incidence areas within Europe.

Now, in all likelihood, Spain will follow suit.

We have compiled the current corona situation and important entry rules for popular holiday countries for you.

Spain soon to be a high incidence area?

The current corona situation

According to information from the “Funke Mediengruppe”, the federal government plans to

classify Spain as a high incidence area

. The Robert Koch Institute publishes the federal government's new corona classifications for foreign countries every Friday. A classification as a high incidence area usually follows with a 7-day incidence of over 200 - the Ministry of Health in Spain last stated this as around 333 (as of July 22nd). In the Balearic Islands, the incidence is even higher at 365.5. According to GISAID, the delta variant made up 71.4 percent of the cases in the last four weeks.

But other factors such as the death rate and hospital occupancy also play a role in deciding whether a country is considered a high incidence area. In Spain, around 13.5 percent of beds in intensive care units are currently occupied. Fully vaccinated are currently almost 53 percent of the population, 70 percent have received at least the first dose.

If the area is classified as a high incidence area, stricter rules apply to those returning to travel: a

digital entry

registration must be

carried out and a negative corona test, proof of complete vaccination or proof of recovery must be provided.

In addition, there is a

ten-day quarantine obligation

, which can be ended on the fifth day at the earliest with another negative test result.

For vaccinated and convalescent people, the quarantine ends as soon as they submit their proof of digital entry registration.

Air travelers must show their negative test at the place of departure.

Traveling to the Netherlands: Rising case numbers are worrying

According to media information, the federal government is also planning to

classify

the Netherlands

as a high-incidence area

. The incidence is around 360 and thus well above the limit of 200. Last month, the delta variant accounted for 58.8 percent of the number of infections. Around 46 percent are fully vaccinated and 68 percent have received the primary vaccination.

If they were classified as a high-incidence area, travelers would be required to submit a negative test or proof of complete vaccination or recovery when returning to Germany.

The ordered ten-day quarantine can only be ended prematurely with a second negative test from the fifth day.

Vaccinated and convalescents can get rid of it immediately with proof.

In addition, the digital entry registration must be completed.

Vacation in Italy: Incidence is slowly increasing - Corona measures tightened

In Italy, the corona situation looks good so far, but there are

increasing numbers of infections

here too

. The incidence has now returned to just under 40 (as of July 23). The Delta variant had a share of 61.5 percent of the new infections in the last four weeks. This is now leading to

tightened corona measures

in the country: From August 6th, visitors to the interiors of restaurants, bars or sports facilities will need the

“Green Pass”

. The document is intended to contain information about corona vaccinations, past infections and corona tests. It should be issued after the first vaccination dose and be valid nationwide.

To enter Italy, an online form must be filled out and the "EU Digital Covid Certificate" must be presented - or in other words: a negative corona test, a complete vaccination or proof of recovery is required.

When returning to Germany, there are no special rules so far, as Italy is not a risk area.

Only air travelers are required to present a negative test at the point of departure in order to be carried.

Greece vacation: Stricter rules on Mykonos - classification as a risk area

Greece has recently become a

risk area

again

. The incidence is currently around 178. Around 60 percent of new infections are due to the Delta variant, as the head of the state health authority EODY, Panagiotis Arkoumaneas, explained according to the editorial network Germany (RND). Due to the increasing number of infections, the government has

imposed

a

curfew from 1 a.m. to 6 a.m.

for the holiday island of

Mykonos

. Numerous vacationers are now breaking off their trip prematurely, the only quarantine hotel on the island is fully booked.

If you want to go on holiday in Greece at the moment, you should find out more about the current situation. At present, entry is still permitted with a negative test or proof of complete vaccination or recovery. No quarantine is required when entering via international airports. However, various local restrictions may apply. In addition, travelers must fill out an online form at least 24 hours before departure. The resulting QR code must be presented upon entry.

Since Greece is a risk area, the digital entry form must also be filled out when returning to Germany.

In addition, a negative test or proof of a complete vaccination or recovery is required, which exempts you from the quarantine obligation.
