Few teens got vaccinated in the US 0:41
(CNN) -
Most teens who go back to school in the coming weeks will not be vaccinated against COVID-19, federal data suggests.
As many teens in the United States prepare to go back to school this fall, a new analysis from CNN shows that less than a third of them are on track to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 in the next two weeks.
About 7 million teens, ages 12 to 17, have been fully vaccinated so far, according to the most recent data released Thursday by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC, for its acronym in English).
Being fully vaccinated means that two weeks have passed since a second dose of the Pfizer / BioNTech coronavirus vaccine was completed.
Based on recent trends, roughly another 600,000 teens could be fully vaccinated in the next two weeks, when many of them return to school.

If that happens, then the number of fully vaccinated teens at that time will account for only about 30% of the roughly 25 million youth ages 12 to 17 in the United States.

And only about 38% (9.6 million teens) will have received at least one dose of the covid-19 vaccine by the time many schools start in two weeks, according to CNN estimates from CDC data.
Many large school systems, including those in Atlanta, Fort Myers, Florida, Flagstaff, Arizona, and the entire state of Hawaii, start school in the first two weeks of August.
