The initiators of the Gmund Bikepark kicked off their project with a lot of enthusiasm. But now it's time to reschedule: the bike crew has said goodbye to the Kreuzstrasse location.

The initiators of the Gmund Bikepark kicked off their project with a lot of enthusiasm.

But now it's time to reschedule: the bike crew has said goodbye to the Kreuzstrasse location.

Gmund

- As many obstacles and jumps as possible, known to insiders as obsticals, pump tracks and jump lines, make a good bike park.

The Bike Crew Gmund is confronted with a lot of obstacles.

Simon Englhart and Ralf Jirgens, two family fathers from Gmund and founders of the Bike Crew, have been thinking of building a bike park for a long time.

A first attempt was made on a meadow behind the Holzeralmweg in Finsterwald - it failed due to the resistance of the residents.

As a result, the former soccer field on Kreuzstrasse was presented as the ideal location and approved by the local council with four votes against at the beginning of May.

An attractive park would not have been possible on Kreuzstrasse

Now everything should turn out differently.

That means: The project on Kreuzstrasse is off the table.

“The municipal terms of use were not compatible with the ideas of the bike crew,” says Englhart.

"It would not have been possible for the newly founded club division to build an attractive park and to operate it financially independently over the long term." The fact that the square on Kreuzstrasse is practically on the green field and that there is no infrastructure at all proved to be the case as another obstacle.

Not to mention a bike path that the community would have had to build to the bike park first.

The crew had come to the conclusion: "It doesn't work on Kreuzstrasse."

Application for bike park in Ostin: Construction committee will discuss on Tuesday

But the project did not die.

On the contrary: thanks to a private initiative by bike park supporter and landscape architect Maria Haslauer, a new attempt is now to be made where the local council originally rejected the idea: on a meadow east of the Ostin leisure facility.

The application should be up for debate in the construction committee next Tuesday.

New bike crew founded: Oedberg GmbH is also on board

Much preparatory work has already been done.

As Jirgens reports, a new bike crew has now been founded, including Maria Haslauer.

The fact that her husband Toni is the landowner of the meadow made planning easier.

Oedberg GmbH with boss Georg Reisberger is also on board.

According to Jirgens, a new company is to be founded in which the crew, Oedberg GmbH and the Haslauer family are represented.

The realization of the project should therefore be put on a professional footing and leave the club level.

According to Jirgens, an inspection has now taken place.

Pump track, jump lines, hut and lake are planned

According to the wishes of the initiators, a pump track, two jump lines, a hut and a small lake are to be implemented on the meadow, which has now been approved as a makeshift parking lot by the district administration.

The crew advertises that the site is ideal for the project as well as for the interests of the owners and Oedberg GmbH to further upgrade the entire area while at the same time doing something for the children from the community and the valley.

All of this fits perfectly with the ideas and visions of the initiators and the wishes of the young people who are currently into the bike trend.

“I think this is the ideal location,” agrees Georg Reisberger, for whom the bike park in Ostin is an “important component” for cycling on the Oedberg.

Children would get great terrain here to practice their sport.

Conservation could become a problem for the plans

Now everyone involved is hoping for quick decisions from the authorities.

The crew is aware that the location is controversial for reasons of nature conservation.

“If the community gives a good reason for this, it is feasible,” believes Jirgens, who emphasizes that some of the donors will continue to stand by their word and also to the Ostin location.

It remains to be seen whether the Gmund municipality's building and environmental committee will also play a role.
