The debate about air filters for schools in the fight against the pandemic is gaining momentum.
Local politicians are skeptical, parents vehemently demand it.
Some have even already taken action - and with astonishing success.
The Olching Parents' Council has done nails. Together with the advisory boards of the city's primary schools and day-care centers, the committee not only collected hundreds of signatures, but also pledged donations of around 18,000 euros. "Every cent counts," explains Anita Zillner, chairwoman of the Parents' Council and mother of three boys, one of whom is about to start school. “We urgently need the systems. The children have a right to education - and to health. "
The parents' concerns are huge with regard to the even more contagious delta variant of the corona virus.
“We are really trembling about a possible fourth wave.
Last autumn cannot repeat itself, ”says Zillner.
Around 800 parents have therefore agreed to contribute something out of their own pocket, also as a signal to the Olching town hall.
“The amounts range from ten to 500 euros,” reports the 37-year-old.
The great hope: “That at least fewer children will be infected through the air filter.” But she is aware that these quarantine measures could not prevent them.
Please to the district administrator
The parents of the Graf-Rasso-Gymnasium in Fürstenfeldbruck, the Gymnasium Olching, the Carl-Spitzweg-Gymnasium Germering and the Orlando-di-Lasso-Realschule Maisach address in an open letter to District Administrator Thomas Karmasin and other local politicians.
The central demand: prevent school closings and still protect the health of the children.
The district is to purchase mobile air purification devices as the material cost manager for secondary schools.
There are models that are quieter and use less electricity.
The previously rather negative attitude of the district can no longer be justified.
At least the rooms of the 5th and 6th grade should - as in the city of Munich - be equipped with the devices.
Since there will probably be no vaccination offer against Corona for the children of these grades.
