British archaeologists have found a piece of stone in Gloucestershire, England, that belongs to an ancient meteorite that is 6.4 billion years old.
According to a statement from the British University of Louvera on its official website, the discovered meteorite is older than Earth, whose age is estimated at 54.4 billion years, pointing out that it forms part of the space debris remaining after the formation of the planets of the solar system and is believed to have come from the asteroid belt located between the orbits of Mars and Jupiter.
Researcher Sean Fowler from the University of Louvera said that the discovered stone is a brittle, non-cohesive and highly porous concrete consisting of particles and dust, and it has not been subjected to strong cosmic shocks, meaning that it did not participate in the emergence of the protoplanets, indicating that it is a rare opportunity to study a piece of the ancient past.
