A 93-year-old woman was scammed with the so-called

"uncle's story"

by criminals who deceived her with the argument of a supposed

"financial corralito"

and stole more than 4.5 million pesos that she went to extract from a safe of a bank in the Buenos Aires town of San Nicolás.

Due to the fact, the police managed to arrest a suspect, a 62-year-old man of Uruguayan nationality who

had a

criminal record both in Argentina and in his country of origin, who was at the disposal of the Fiscal Instruction Unit (UFI) 13 of San Nicolás, by Rubén Darío Giagnorio.


The incident occurred when a 93-year-old woman received a telephone call from a woman at her home, who

posed as her daughter

and told her that a "financial corral" would be implemented in the country as a result of the economic crisis. which recommended that he withdraw all his savings from his safe deposit box.


In turn, the scammer warned her victim that a friend of her daughter would stop by her home to take her to a bank branch, and help her remove all valuables from the safe.

In the detainee's house there were money, a gun and bullets.

In this way, a man went to the victim's home, with whom he attended a headquarters of the Santander Río bank in San Nicolás and, later, appropriated all of his savings.

As a result of the scam, the gang stole

4,540,000 pesos from

the woman

including Argentine currency, dollars and jewelry.


A suspect fell


From the complaint, the UFI 13 intervened, which together with members of the Departmental Directorate of Investigations (DDI) of San Nicolás viewed the records of the security cameras and tracked the calls from the area, where they managed to identify the man who had attended to the bank with the victim and then had seized the money.


For this reason, the man's home was searched on Campo Ledesma street without a number, in the area of ​​Barracks II, in the rural sector of the Buenos Aires town of Marcos Paz.

As a result of the raid, the investigations found 200,000 pesos that, it is suspected, is part of the money stolen from the old woman, along with the clothes that the man had on at the time of this crime.

In addition, a 9-millimeter Browning Hi Power pistol was seized with the numbering filed and almost a hundred rounds of ammunition.

The 62-year-old man arrested was charged with “

fraud

” and “illegal possession of weapons and ammunition of war”.
