The sports and functional building of the MTV Berg am Huberfeld, which has been in the planning phase since 2013, has increased in price by 700,000 euros.

The groundbreaking ceremony can take place in early 2022 at the earliest.

- A never-ending story, a bottomless pit. One could find many more hackneyed phrases to describe the current state of affairs with regard to sports and functional buildings in Berg Nord. In any case, the fact is: The construction of the house on Huberfeld, which has been longed for for years, is delayed again - at least until spring 2022 - and will become more expensive by around 700,000 euros to just under 2.1 million euros. Andreas Hlavaty, 1st Chairman of the MTV, had to convey this sobering news to his association members at the annual general meeting on Thursday evening.

The planning for the multifunctional building next to the artificial turf pitch of the MTV Berg has been going on since 2013.

The groundbreaking should actually have taken place in autumn 2020, but further fire protection requirements are now delaying the start of construction again.

"We need to add a ventilation system," explained Hlavaty.

And because of this, the building has to be expanded and modified in some parts.

"The previous construction plan no longer fits," explained the MTV chairman.

The change request has already been submitted to the municipality.

Cost explosion to almost 2.1 million euros

Due to the additional structural measures and also because of the steadily rising prices in the construction industry, Hlavaty and his colleagues on the board estimate the total costs at 2,081,500 euros.

Compared to the previously estimated 1.3 million, this means an additional burden of around 700,000 euros.

"I hope that we can raise the financing this year and that the groundbreaking can hopefully take place in spring 2022," said Hlavaty.

Berg municipality is to increase the grant to 900,000 euros

The MTV Berg has already received higher grants from the Bavarian State Sports Association and the Bavarian Sport Schützenbund (a new shooting range is being built in the basement for SG Mantal-Harkirchen). The association will apply to the municipality for an additional subsidy: so far, the town hall had promised a subsidy of around 600,000 euros, now it should be around 900,000 euros.

Last year, the 1400-member sports club was not only surprised by the topic of the new construction of the sports and functional building, but also by the chimney sweep responsible for the clubhouse at Lohacker.

For fire protection reasons, the kitchen exhaust air system suddenly no longer fit, which is why the MTV had to invest 14,000 euros in a new ventilation system.

Now an unmistakable, apparently oversized exhaust air chimney made of sheet metal adorns the roof of the clubhouse.

“A monster,” as Hlavaty described it.

Despite all the nasty surprises and pandemic-related losses, MTV Berg, which will celebrate its 100th anniversary next year, is still financially in bed.

Treasurer Uli Baum presented the members with a cash surplus of 53,600 euros.

The association was able to increase its liquid funds to 682,000 euros in 2020.

"Other clubs are not in such a comfortable situation," said Baum.

MTV Berg board of directors unanimously re-elected

This is not the only reason why the members of the MTV have been extremely satisfied with their board of directors in recent years. This was also evident in the new elections. The previous office holders were unanimously re-elected for three more years: Andreas Hlavaty as chairman, Annette Egenhofer as his deputy and Uli Baum as treasurer and secretary. Ingrid Rieback and Errol Pfluger remain the auditors.

At the meeting, Hlavaty also honored some long-standing members with certificates and nobility of honor: Augustin Ullman (60 years member), Elisabeth Flögel, Hannelore Kittel, Hermine Hoffmann, Maria Rabenstein, Wilhelm Lindner (every 50 years), Klaus Böck, Martin Schwingenstein, Michaela Höhne , Reinhard Uebe (every 40 years), Dagmar Kaske, Katharina Kellner, Marc Bertagnolli, Maria Becker, Matthias Becker and Verena Obermaier (every 30 years).
