Iván Velásquez: Giammattei does not fight corruption 2:15
(CNN Spanish) -
The Attorney General of Guatemala, Consuelo Porras, dismissed from his post the special prosecutor Juan Francisco Sandoval, of the Special Prosecutor's Office against Impunity (FECI), the Public Ministry reported this Friday in a statement.
According to the authorities, Porras' decision is due to alleged "humiliations" by the now former official against the attorney general herself.
CNN has asked outgoing prosecutor Juan Francisco Sandoval for a reaction after being removed from office, but has yet to get a response.
Sandoval worked in renowned judicial cases such as "consolidating line", in which former President Otto Pérez Molina and former Vice President Roxana Baldetti were charged, "assault on the Ministry of Public Health", "IGGS Pisa" and cases of illegal electoral financing, among others. .
During the visit to Guatemala of the Vice President of the United States, Kamala Harris, in early June, the importance of this official remaining in the FECI was mentioned.

In addition, in February the US government awarded Sandoval an "anti-corruption champion" recognition for his performance as a prosecutor.
New Jersey Democratic Representative Albio Sires reacted on his Twitter account to the prosecutor's removal, calling it a "lethal blow to the fight against corruption."
The Guatemalan Public Ministry reported that Carla Isidra Valenzuela was appointed as the person in charge of the FECI.
