The state of Rio Grande do Sul has recalculated and submitted over 64,000 cases of infection.
That drives the numbers up in Brazil.
Brasília - Due to tens of thousands of late registrations, the Brazilian Ministry of Health registered more than 100,000 corona infections within one day.
When the daily case numbers were published on Friday evening (local time), the Ministry in Brasília named 108,732 new cases. The sudden increase was due to the fact that the state of Rio Grande do Sul had updated its corona data collected over 500 days and transmitted more than 64,000 new cases at once. The day before, Brazil had registered around 50,000 new cases. In total, more than 19.6 million people in the largest country in Latin America have been proven to be infected with the corona virus.
In July, Brazil reported the lowest number of new daily corona infections since January. More than 130 million vaccine doses have been administered since the nationwide vaccination campaign began in January. About 40 percent of adult Brazilians have received a single dose, and around 17 percent are fully vaccinated. In view of the lack of vaccine doses, the Brazilian metropolis of Rio de Janeiro and other important cities again suspended their first vaccinations against the corona virus. dpa
