As the face of the German Fridays For Future movement, Luisa Neubauer regularly expresses criticism of the federal government's climate policy.

In an interview with the “Neue Osnabrücker Zeitung”, the climate protection activist has once again found clear words against Angela Merkel and German politics.

The Chancellor had "repeatedly set priorities against our livelihoods, against ecological rights and the opportunities of future generations," said Neubauer to the newspaper.

When setting other course for the future, Merkel had definitely prevailed against her party and made unpopular decisions.

With climate protection, however, she rarely did that.

With a view to the future, Neubauer calls for a “non-partisan consensus”.

The challenge of the climate crisis is so huge that it can only be tackled together.

"Germany will not make its contribution if not everyone works for climate justice," said Neubauer.

In the interview, the 25-year-old activist also called on politicians to act just as decisively on the climate crisis as they did on the corona crisis.

The pandemic has shown what people are ready for if the drama of the situation is clearly shown to them.

In terms of climate protection, however, “nobody has made a serious attempt to do what should be done so far”.

Neubauer does not want to accept the argument that the population is not ready to support drastic climate protection measures.

On the one hand, there has been no evidence of this so far, and there is always opposition and resistance in the event of major political changes.

"If that had always been used as an excuse for doing nothing, there would never have been women's suffrage, the minimum wage, or the coal or nuclear phaseout," said Neubauer.
