Thomas Eusemann leaves the elementary school in Bernbeuren at the end of the school year.

The rector goes to Polling.

The people in Bernbeuren are happy that a successor has been found.

Bernbeuren -

Thomas Eusemann is certain that he will have to shed a few tears on the last day of school.

Just three years after taking the helm at the Bernbeuren elementary school, he is handing it over to new hands.

The decision was not an easy one for him, admits the native of Upper Franconia, who after his legal clerkship worked as a teacher in Weilheim, Rome and Huglfing before he took over the school management at Auerberg. His predecessor Matthias Igerl hadn't promised him too much back then. Eusemann also found the elementary school in Bernbeuren to be a paradise, in which he was able to initiate and continue a lot. Among other things, the 45-year-old mentions the wind class that established itself during his time as rector and the fact that the primary school has become more inclusive with a cooperative class.

At times Eusemann, who lived in Weilheim, had toyed with the idea of moving to the Auerberg with his family.

But then his wife would have had to put up with the long daily car journey.

She is a teacher at the middle school in Weilheim.

In the end, her husband also found the long time on the street to be increasingly difficult;

especially during the ongoing renovation of the Schongau bypass, it took Eusemann a good three quarters of an hour to get to Bernbeuren.

Because the 45-year-old and his family put down roots in the district town and live there in a semi-detached house, the rector decided to apply for the vacancy in Polling.

There is now a little more work waiting for the family man.

In Bernbeuren there were only four classes for which he was responsible, in Polling there will be seven from the coming school year.

In addition, there are two school classes in Eberfing who are also looked after from Polling.

Bernbeuren's mayor, Karl Schleich, was initially surprised by the news that the rector was leaving the local elementary school.

In the most recent meeting in the Auerberghalle, he informed the local council that “thank God we will have a new one on August 1st”.

That was not initially clear.

The position will be taken over by Thomas Kosian, who is moving from the primary school in Böbing to the Auerberg.

In Böbing Kosian had initially taught the first and second grades.

Finally he took the fourth under his wing.

In addition, the 44-year-old represented the headmistress as deputy principal.

Kosian justified his successful application for the position in Bernbeuren.

He has already been trained there by his predecessor Eusemann over the past few weeks.

“It's a smooth handover,” says Kosian, who is very much looking forward to the new task.

"The school is well set up."

As a native of Schongau, the new rector is deeply rooted in the region.

He now lives with his family in Peißenberg.

Meanwhile, moving to Bernbeuren is not an option for Kosian, he gets along well with the daily drive to Bernbeuren.

"I know the route very well and it is well developed."

The chances are not bad that the new rector of the Bernbeuren elementary school will stay longer than the outgoing one.

“I don't have any bigger ambitions, but of course you can't know what the time will bring,” he says.
