Four years ago, these five blocks of Avenida Jorge Newbery began to be configured as

a gastronomic corridor with its own identity without losing the neighborhood imprint of

Chacarita.

The recent openings of bars and restaurants -pandemic through- and those that are approaching end up outlining

a challenging and unique profile

, the B side of Palermo.

In total there are ten places, a short and intimate circuit, with

many places run by their own owners

. Most of them, young entrepreneurs who

worked hard on the concept of their proposal

so as not to fall into the “copy & paste” phenomenon that occurs in massive gastronomic centers. There is a strong sense of belonging and communion with the entire neighborhood that is booming.

Nearby there are

many spaces that blend in very well with your personality

.

Across the avenue (at Charlone 499) a cult taco shop,

Georgie's

.

Just one block from Newbery, in the opposite direction, the magical atmosphere of

Obrador

(Charlone 202),

probably the most beautiful corner of Chacarita

.

A few steps away, another thriving circuit: Dorrego, which houses La Fuerza, Apu Nena and Picarón, among others.

In Newbery's roadmap,

the classic coexists with the emerging, the hipster aesthetic with the sobriety of yesterday.

Locals appreciate the relaxed atmosphere of this tree-lined avenue and the creative perseverance of their hosts.

10 restaurants and bars to visit on Newbery avenue

1- Donnet

Mushrooms, the base of Donnet's dishes.

The culinary proposal of this

restaurant specializing in fungi

is no doubt the most unique Newbery runner.

Its creator, Manuela Donnet, bets on vegan and raw vegan cuisine with

agroecological, organic and biodynamic seasonal products.

This restaurant has been operating since 2017 where the traditional café Los 3 Hermanos used to be.

And it

preserves the aesthetics of a

still life but with a very disruptive gastronomy.

Girgolas of different colors, mushrooms and morels

, among other products from the fungi world, are the heart of its menu.

Donnet works where the 3 brothers cafe used to be.

Donnet Mushrooms are one of the hits

: a base of chestnut ferments with mushrooms marinated in green olive liquor, raw cookies and green powder.

The tasting with ten dishes that change every day is also in high demand.

2- Bar Guevar

Bar Guevar opened in 2012.

It is the pioneer of the area

: it opened its doors in 2012 with a conventional homemade food proposal that met the demand of one of the off theaters in the area.

It is an informal bar

with a gastronomic offer without a unique concept.

Part of the menu is displayed on the outdoor pizzarras of the premises.

They have everything from risottos and pasta such as gnocchi, fettuccinis and homemade sorrentinos to some tapas (squid, hummus, aubergine pasta).

Friday nights are the busiest days

.

They have indoor tables and in winter they offer blankets for those who sit at the sidewalk tables.

Open from Monday to Sunday, from 11 a.m. to midnight.

3- Cuervo Café

Cuervo Café, a shed with a hipster vibe in Chacarita.

This specialty coffee

is the newest neighbor in the corridor

.

It is a stripped-down workshop that functions as a roasting facility for the other two Palermo branches of Cuervo.

Hard to resist the aroma and hipster stamp

of this corner.

In this new house, clients can

interact with the selection and roasting process of specialty beans

.

The “educational” experience about coffee is complete: among other things, they

offer five different types of filtrates.

Cuervo Café opened its third branch in Chacarita.

Flat white

, a coffee consisting of two shots of ristretto and subtly steamed milk,

is the most popular drink

.

To accompany, salty flavors such as avocado smash or parmesan cheese scon and very good pastry.

Open Tuesday to Sunday from 2pm to 8pm. Guevara 393. IG: @cuervocafe

4- Communal warehouse

Communal warehouse, a bright corner of Chacarita.

The story of this

bright corner of Chacarita

begins with the search for two friends who considered building the place they would have liked to go to.

A

product kitchen, with a careful curation of raw

materials

so that quality becomes the main coordinate.

The day starts early and closes at night

.

It is the place where you can have an egg avocado toast and country egg for breakfast with specialty coffee and a home-made barbecue braised pork bondiola for dinner.

Low intervention wines, craft beers and premium vermouths

, some of the options for the toast.

Egg avocado toast from Community Warehouse.

The proposal works so well and

the empathy with the neighborhood is so strong

that the creators of Almacén Comunal are about

to open a new gastronomic space on Newbery.

Open from Tuesday to Sunday from 9.30 am to midnight.

5- Whiskey Headquarters

Whiskey Headquarters, steps from Newbery.

“August 23, 2018. Here the conservative look of

whiskey died

.

RIP ”

, says a plaque at the entrance of this bar.

In the neighborhood of the largest cemetery in the City they buried several preconceptions in relation to this drink.

A

relaxed, young, accessible

bar

that does not go down the line on how to consume whiskey and is not designed exclusively for men is a novelty in this niche.

On the bar are all the

classic drinks

based on this distillate and also

signature creations.

Headquarters Whiskey seeks to break the clichés about this distillate.

His Old fashioned with whiskey, Hesperidina and moscato, is a tribute to the Imperio pizzeria, an icon of the neighborhood.

The gastronomy

that includes vegan dishes and without TACC was

designed to pair with their labels and cocktails

.

A plus: the

free locker service

for those who buy a bottle that can be kept there indefinitely.

6-Siphon

Siphon, in an old chorizo house.

A young bar built around a simple, vintage and popular product such as soda

.

This is how this hit by runner Newbery was thought.

Vermouths, drinks and even wine, everything is consumed with the bubbles that come out of the siphon.

The dishes are grilled

: corn, veggie tostones, provoletas, polenta, aubergines.

That delicious crust that this type of cooking provides is one of the strengths of the place.

Sifón's heated sidewalk.

The atmosphere also says a lot:

a chorizo house that makes you long for the grandparents' house

with its cracks and exposed bricks.

The internal patio and the heated sidewalk are an obligatory meeting point for the under-35s in all season.

Open from Monday to Friday from 5:00 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays from 12:00 p.m. Newbery 3881. IG: @ sifon.soderia

7- Luther Bar

The night in Luther.

Afternoons and evenings have a

friendly cadence in the ochava of Newbery and Fraga.

The formula is simple and yielding:

tapas bar

accompanied by craft beers, organic wines and house drinks.

Potatoes with coriander aioli and brava sauce, fainá al verdeo, babaganush, beet cream and mint and their successful Italian-style pizzas:

Luther's flavors have influences from here and there

and a very photogenic presentation.

Luther, an ochava that invites calm.

There is a bohemian quota in the proposal

: samples of artists inside the premises and night sessions set to music by DJs.

The armchairs invite you to relax like at home, either indoors or on the sidewalk.

Open Tuesday to Saturday from 5pm to 11pm. Newbery 3801. IG: @luterobar

8- Ulúa

Traditional Mexican cuisine in Ulúa.

Three Mexican friends

decided to become genuine ambassadors of the cuisine of their land in these latitudes.

That is why this place abstains from the typical burritos and nachos to make room for the

traditional dishes that its compatriots eat at home.

Enmoladas

(corn tortilla stuffed with chicken and tomato sauce and bathed in mole) and

Pozole

(a soup based on white corn with pork broth served with lettuce, radishes and oregano and eaten with corn tostadas and hot sauce)

are just some of the options on the menu

.

In Ulúa the Day of the Dead is celebrated with an altar of offerings.

Among the drinks, the Margarita

de Jamaica stands out

(with Jamaica flower, Jalapeño syrup).

And the wine list demolishes the myth that Mexican cuisine does not go well with that drink.

On dates such as the Day of the Dead they

hold special celebrations

with “mini installations” such as altars of offerings.

They have heated tables on the sidewalk.

Open from Wednesday to Saturday from 8pm to midnight.

Saturday and Sunday from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.

9- Feel in Pita

The busy path of Feel in pita.

The full sidewalk every noon is a classic of this gourmet

, abundant and healthy

take away

.

Those who wait for their order to take it home mingle with those who have lunch on site.

Its history started five years ago under the name Roll'in Luí and after a corporate change it was renamed in honor of the typical Middle Eastern bread.

Pita bread and

rolls filled with

falafel

, vegetables and / or legumes with various ethnic marks, voluptuous salads, soups, curries

: everything to take away or eat in

street food

format

.

His many followers appreciate the

friendly prices

, the creativity of the proposal and the willingness to customize their products to suit the client.

10 - The Newbery

The Newbery opened in 2021.

Another opening in 2021, in this case inaugurated

within the framework of the Central Newbery art gallery

.

An attractive corner, frequent scene of artistic interventions and musical shows on the sidewalk.

The culinary concept goes through a

home cooking, market adapted to the bar format.

The menu

ranges from braised asado empanadas to a veggie table to share, drinks, vermouth,

beers and a selection of classic and modern wine labels.

Toast at El Newbery.

It has a

room with a permanent exhibition of works of art

that can be visited freely and was designed to hold social and corporate events.

On the sidewalk there is capacity for 70 people.

Open from Wednesday to Sunday from 12 to 23 hours.
