A recent US study revealed that vision problems are associated with an increased risk of cognitive decline in the elderly.
The Gamma Network Open magazine reported that the study conducted by scientists from Johns Hopkins University in the United States of America included more than 1,200 elderly people whose health was followed for about seven years, during which scientists studied the relationship between vision and various cognitive abilities such as memory, attention and learning ability, based on indicators of low visual acuity. .
Scientists have found that visual impairment is associated with decreased mental performance. Patients with vision problems also suffer from deterioration in speech, memory and attention.
The scientists pointed out that the results of the study prove the relationship between vision, eye health and brain aging, which calls for broader studies to be conducted to determine the impact of vision and eye health on human cognitive performance.
