The World Judo Federation reacts harshly to the political act: Fathi Nurin, the Algerian judoka who retired from the Tokyo Olympics to avoid encountering the purity of Botbol, was immediately suspended and thrown out of the Olympic Village.
In addition, the accreditations were denied to him and his coach Amar Benhalaf.
"Nurin's move is completely contrary to the philosophy of our organization," the World Judo Association explained the decision.
"We intend to respond harshly to cases of discrimination as in this case."
Botbol automatically advanced to the second round in the weight category up to 73 kg and Nurin could have met him if he won the first round.

The 30-year-old Nurin has a long history with Israeli opponents and also with Botbol himself, when he did not go up to battle against him at the World Championships two years ago and gave him a technical victory in the second round.
In the same year he also registered for the Abu Dhabi Grand Slam, but when he realized that athletes from Israel would come to the competition, he announced his retirement and did not attend at all.
Nurin explained to the Algerian media on Tuesday: "My position on the Palestinian issue is firm. I will not recognize the Israeli flag and I will not get my hands dirty with it."
His coach, who in 2008 won a silver medal weighing up to 90 kg, was interviewed in his homeland, mentioned that there is no normalization relationship with Israel and said: "We were unlucky in the lottery.
Nurin could have met an Israeli opponent and that is the reason for his retirement.
We made the right decision. "
