Los Leones
, the men's field hockey team, debuted this Saturday at the Tokyo Olympics with a
1-1 draw against Spain
.
Carlos Retegui's team defends the gold obtained in Rio 2016, but the victory slipped from their hands in the first match and there was a hot finish.
Under the intense heat of Tokyo, in the Oi Stadium, and with the time already fulfilled, the Spanish
David Alegre
ended up cramped on the floor and the Argentine Matías Rey was assisting him until
Lucas Rossi
appeared
.
Very hot, Rossi put the stick in the head of the Spaniard and tried to lift it as if the stick were a spatula and the European an egg on a plate.
Rossi had had a normal match of the match with Alegre, but apparently the anger came because he thought that the Spaniard was delaying the game, although the clock had already reached the end and the 1-1 was installed.
Alegre's teammates and Rossi's teammates
quickly
intervened
to try to separate.
But the fight was escalating and they almost ended up with the punches.
Rossi is now exposed to a sanction since the authorities can review what happened in the TV images and determine what punishment corresponds to him.
In the end nothing happened.
They argued, they scold each other and the temperature dropped little by little.
When asked by TyC Sports about what happened,
Ignacio Ortíz
tried to lower the decibels: “It seems to me that there were some cards that were good for us, but for them they could also have been applied and it didn't happen.
Likewise, it ended up a bit choppy because we know each other a lot, we've played a lot of friendlies lately
and it is the touch of the game that remains here on the court.
The match
At 23 minutes, Argentina had the first cry with a goal from
Agustín Mazzilli
: he broke away from the defender and after a great assist from Matías Rey passing three-quarters of the court he scored with a deflection from above that dislodged Spanish goalkeeper Francisco Cortés.
Spain looked for the tie the whole game, with 25 entries to the area against only ten from Los Leones, and finally found it.
Pau Quemada
took advantage of a short corner (Argentina had none) and achieved equality for the Europeans in the last quarter, at 52 minutes.
In other matches of the day, for the Los Leones group, Australia beat local Japan 5-3 and India beat New Zealand 3-2.
What's coming
The next game for the Argentines will be on Monday 25, at 7 in the morning, against the Japanese (it will be necessary to see if Rossi receives a sanction).
On the third date, Tuesday, July 26, the Lions will face Australia, at 9:30 p.m., while the last two dates for the group stage will be against India (7/28, 9:30 p.m.) and New Zealand (30 / 7, 7 hours).
Group B of the Tokyo 2020 men's hockey is made up of Belgium, the Netherlands, Germany, Great Britain, Canada and South Africa.
