On June 24, the collapse of the building that was part of the Champlain Towers complex, in the

Surfside

area

, Miami

, left a great commotion.

Within seconds, the twelve-story tower vanished, leaving 97 dead, two missing and 11 wounded.

A few days ago it was learned that a judge determined that the victims will initially receive 150 million dollars in compensation for the tragic event.

The residential building in Surfside collapsed on June 24.

At the same time, the hypotheses on the

causes of the tragedy and on the true state of the building continue

.

Among the possible theories, there is the

effect of the sea in the deterioration of the materials that made up the structure

to cracks in the pool or even the excessive weight of the air conditioning system

.

Now, the Argentine architect

Sergio Manes

,

professor of the career at the Faculty of Architecture of the University of Buenos Aires,

published his theory on his YouTube channel and in a few days it reached one million views.

According to their investigation, the Champlain Towers South Condo lacked rafters.

It only had columns.

According to an Argentine architect, the building had no beams.

This would not be a fatal issue in and of itself.

Because, as he explains in his video,

while you can build a building without beams, additional reinforcements are necessary, such as slabs, internal beams and other construction resources, that were not in the tower.

According to his words, this is what made him extremely fragile.

The problem, in addition, would be in the regulations of the city of Miami that allow this type of construction.

It also clarifies that the lack of beams was not the cause of the collapse, but

the reason why there were no more survivors

.

“The victims could have been avoided with a different constructive system;

I believe that all engineers and architects must learn from this tragedy ”, he clarified.

What they will do at the Champlain Towers site

Another issue that resonates these days among the owners of

Champlain Towers

is what to do on the

land valued about 100 million dollars

.

While some want a

new condominium

to be built

on the site

that can be inhabited, others disagreed and, on the contrary, proposed that a memorial be built there in honor of the victims.

In the collapse of Miami, there were 97 deaths.

There are also those who pointed out that both options are compatible.

Since in the

place, which is on the beachfront, a residential complex can be built, leaving a place reserved as a memorial in honor of the victims and those affected

.

"A lot of people feel like they would like to get their home back," said

Oren Cytrynbaum

, one of the owners

, at the hearing

.

He also stressed that for many it is an

"impossible mission" to

return to have a property like the one they had in the condominium,

"considering the prices of the houses, especially in front of the sea

.

"

The judge in charge of the case pointed out that all the positions of those affected should be taken into account, but without allowing time to pass in view of the fact that the victims need monetary compensation to rebuild their lives.
