The number of victims of floods and landslides that swept India during the past few days has risen to 159, while the search is still underway for dozens of missing persons.
AFP quoted the Indian authorities as saying in a statement that 149 people were killed in Maharashtra, more than 40 of them in a landslide that hit the village of Tali, about 250 km south of Mumbai, "noting that the floods caused power outages and damaged agricultural crops." in 11 Indian provinces.
The authorities indicated that they had evacuated about 230,000 people from all over Mumbai amid difficult conditions, stressing that rescuers were searching through the mud and debris, hoping to find 100 people who are still missing.
A previous official toll indicated that at least 125 people were killed as a result of the floods and landslides that swept India.
