The government will approve this morning (Sunday) the inclusion of Eli Avidar as a government minister and the appointment of MK Yair Golan (Meretz) as Deputy Minister of Economy.

In addition to appointments, the government is expected to approve at its meeting unprecedented decision on the transfer of low-carbon economy in Israel. The decision, signed by Prime Prime Minister Naftali Bennett, and Ministers Tamar Zandberg, Yair Lapid, Avigdor Lieberman, Karin Elharar, Merav Michaeli, Orna Barbibai and Ayelet Shaked, set for the first time a national target for 2050 to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, in accordance with Israel's commitment to the UN Climate Convention.

At the beginning of the cabinet meeting, Prime Minister Naftali Bennett congratulated taekwondo fighter Avishag Samberg, who won a bronze medal at the Tokyo Olympics yesterday, and said that she had brought "national honor to the State of Israel."

In his remarks, Bennett also referred to the government's policy on the corona.

"The easiest way could have been to return to the closure accordion, but this is not the right way. We insist on preserving the livelihood, economy, education and freedom of the citizens of Israel, by wearing masks, protecting the elderly and immunizing," the prime minister said. "Citizens who can be vaccinated have not been vaccinated yet."

"I can understand those who feared in the beginning when everything was new, but now that over a billion people in the world have been vaccinated and all countries see it as effective and safe, the scientific facts are clear. Those who get vaccinated are sick and less contagious. "To be vaccinated. Only with guarantee and solidarity will we defeat the plague. I saw the demonstrations outside my home, it is legitimate - but the demonstrations will not defeat the delta. Immunization will win."

The government has grown

As first reported in Walla !, Avidar is later slated to be appointed Minister of Intelligence in place of Elazar Stern, who is due to run for the presidency of the Jewish Agency in October. Until then, he will be appointed minister in the Prime Minister's Office with responsibility for "strategic planning" issues, even though only earlier this month the government decided to close the ministry for strategic matters.

Avidar is expected to resign from his position in the Knesset after being appointed Minister of Government under Norwegian law, and will instead enter the next Knesset in line on the Yisrael Beiteinu list. This will bring the number of government ministers who used Norwegian law and are not Knesset members to 21 - who were replaced by 21 new Knesset members.

Upon joining the government, Avidar will be the 28th minister around the cabinet table, while the appointment of Yair Golan to the position of deputy economy minister will bring the number of deputy ministers in the government to five. However, only seven government ministers still serve as MKs, after the coalition expanded Norwegian law and brought its use to an all-time high.

The cost of a minister's office is estimated at NIS 6.5 million a year, and the cost of a deputy minister's office at NIS 2.5 million.

In addition, the cost of office of each of the 21 new MKs entered instead of the resigning directors Ministers is $ 1.7 million per year. That is the cost of Norwegian law Bclfhot estimated $ 35 million per year and about 150-160 million per term.

The appointment of Avidar Avidar, who ran in the Yisrael Beiteinu election, clashed with party chairman and finance minister Avigdor Lieberman, and since the formation of the government has been acting in the Knesset as a single faction.

In recent weeks, Secretary of State Shalom Shlomo has been in contact with him to regulate relations, for fear of threatening to vote against the coalition's proposals.

With the formation of the government, Avidar refused Lieberman's offer to be appointed minister in the Ministry of Finance and demanded an executive portfolio.

He will now be appointed Minister in the Prime Minister's Office and later Minister of Intelligence, subject to Stern's election as chairman of the Agency.

Silman Levin: The coalition will continue to form committees even without the consent of the opposition

Golan's appointment as deputy minister is part of an arrangement designed to resolve the crisis between the coalition and the opposition that paralyzes Knesset work.

Golan was supposed to head the Aliyah and Absorption Committee, but Meretz resigned in favor of the opposition in exchange for his appointment as deputy minister.

The decision to transfer another committee to the opposition was supposed to pave the way for a solution to the crisis, but there is still disagreement in the Knesset about the division of seats within the committees and especially in the Finance and Economy Committee, where the opposition demands more seats.

On Friday, the coalition's chairman, MK Idit Silman, informed the opposition center, MK Yariv Levin, that the coalition intends to continue the process of establishing the committees even without the opposition's consent, and today the Knesset committee is expected to approve the establishment of five special committees - all of the coalition.
