Director of the Pistachio Office at the Ministry of Agriculture, Engineer Jihad Al-Mohammed, announced that the initial production estimates for the pistachio crop for this season exceed 45.5 thousand tons, and Hama occupies the first place in production.
In a statement to Sana Bin Al-Mohammed, the initial production estimates for the Aleppo pistachio crop for this season are about 45,592 tons, Hama governorate occupies the first place with a production of about 25,044 tons, followed by Aleppo with a production of 13,619 tons, and then Idlib by about 5725 tons, while the production of Homs is estimated at 833 tons, As-Suwayda 337 tons, and Damascus countryside 33 According to Al-Mohammed, the area planted with pistachios is 58,495 hectares, in which about 9,579,000 trees are planted, of which more than 4.8 million fruitful trees are irrigated and rainfed.
Al-Mohammed pointed out that production decreased this year from last year by about 20 thousand tons, where it reached 65 thousand tons last season, attributing the decline to two reasons, the first being that it is a floating year on pistachio trees, and the second is climatic changes and low rates of rain, which affected production because most trees Distributed in rain-fed areas.
Al-Mohammed explained that the exported quantities of the pistachio crop for the previous season from 1-8-2021 to date amounted to 2,877 tons of pistachio cores and 634 tons of pistachios with shells.
