The members of the BI Pfrombach / Aich cheer about an “overwhelming support”: They have probably cleared an important hurdle on the way to the referendum.

Pfrombach

- The citizens' initiative Pfrombach / Aich reports a success in its fight against the expansion plans of the company ELA Container: Over 1700 signatures have been collected to bring about a referendum.

This means that the required number of 1270 has been more than achieved, explain Sebastian Greil and Felix Rust as representatives of the BI.

The signatures will be handed over to the city of Moosburg on August 9th. "The date was chosen because it ensures treatment in the first city council meeting after the summer break and at the same time respects the city council's break during the summer holidays," a statement said. Signature lists that are still in circulation could still be sent back to BI, according to the initiators.

"We would like to thank the citizens of Moosburg for their overwhelming support," emphasized Sebastian Greil.

"We would not have thought that we would get this number of signatures within such a short time." One reason for this may be that "the Moosburgers themselves are ultimately suffering from the heavy development of recent years".

The storm events of the past few days and weeks have shown that there should be no “business as usual” with regard to redensification and surface sealing, according to Greil.

"Unplanned urban sprawl must come to an end"

As the initiators report, broad approval was received from all sections of the population.

“Whether young or old, craftsmen or business people, most of the people we spoke to see it as we do,” says Felix Rust.

His credo: "The haphazard urban sprawl in our region must come to an end."

With the referendum, the BI wants to prevent "that because of individual interests valuable arable land in Pfrombach is converted into an industrial area, although alternatives are available".

Numerous written objections to the project were formulated by citizens in the past year.

"As is known, the city council majority disregarded this when voting on the development plan."

Legal review is still pending - BI sees itself well armed

Before the topic can come to a vote, the admissibility of the citizens' initiative must be determined by the city.

For this purpose, it is checked whether a sufficient number of collected signatures come from Moosburg citizens who are eligible to vote.

In addition, the question of the referendum has to be examined from a legal point of view.

"Other initiatives have failed in the past because of this test," the initiators know.

In order to avoid this, the wording was worked out by a specialized law firm.

The initiators hope that the city council will "finally take into account the will of the people" and implement the petition.

Otherwise the city would have to carry out a referendum in which all Moosburgers vote on the implementation of the referendum.
