Pyrénées-Orientales: spectacular seizure of 1,500 cannabis plants in a shed

The two accused, a man and a woman in their early thirties, were respectively sentenced to 6 months in prison and 12 months suspended.


At the end of several surveillance operations which revealed curious behavior as well as suspicious odors near a hangar located in Corneilla-la-Rivière (Pyrénées-Orientales), the gendarmes of Elne's brigade proceeded to the search of the premises Saturday, July 17 in the evening.

In the hangar, the soldiers unearthed a culture of nearly 1,500 cannabis plants, as the newspaper L'Indépendant learned.

The building turned out to be ultra-equipped for the proper functioning of this small illegal business, notably equipped with a sophisticated heating system and wild electrical connections.

The plantation had apparently been established several months ago.

The farming couple, in their early thirties, were arrested and taken into custody after the search. The two defendants were then imprisoned pending their judgment in immediate appearance this Friday before the Criminal Court of Perpignan. The man was sentenced to 18 months in prison, including 6 months closed. His partner got a 12-month suspended sentence.
