Labor and Social Affairs Minister Hubertus Heil wants to achieve a lot with regard to the pension level.

However, a higher retirement age is not an option for him.

Berlin - Federal Labor Minister Heil has ambitious plans if the SPD comes back into government after the upcoming general election.

In an interview with the

Rheinische Post

, he explains how he wants to keep the pension level stable at 48 percent by 2040 and why a retirement age over 67 is out of the question for him.

Pension: Minister of Labor Heil wants to maintain the pension level at 48 percent until 2040

The prognoses 15 years ago were much worse than the reality. "That gives me courage," said Heil. The pension level is still high due to the robust labor market. In order to stabilize pensions in Germany, Heil wants to employ “as many people as possible at higher wages in the future”. This would also ensure “a secure and adequate pension” later on. “We have made sure that the pension level will remain stable until 2025 for the time being. I want us to extend this stop line until 2040, ”he tells the

Rheinische Post.

If it were up to him, the pension should not be decoupled from the development of wages.

In the future, all the more people have to be activated who are able to work and who could contribute more to the financing of pensions.

“We have over 50,000 early school leavers, over a million long-term unemployed, many of whom have no professional training, and too many women part-time.

If we activate all of them, we will also have the resources to keep the statutory pension stable, ”says Heil.

Hubertus Heil thinks this is "cynical"

Many experts predict that the retirement age will have to increase over the years from 2030 onwards.

Heil says in an interview: "Some people tell each other, but they have no view of the realities of life for many people." He considers it "cynical" to tell a nurse, steel worker or warehouse clerk that he has to work until he is 70 now.

"We already have one of the highest retirement ages in Europe," Heil told the

Rheinische Post.
