In Spain, a small plane damaged several electricity connections in France.
The important high-voltage lines supply the Iberian peninsula with energy.
After the incident, the operator switched off the lines as a precaution, as reported by several media, such as the Spanish newspaper »El País«.
According to this, several regions of Spain were without electricity for about an hour, including various areas in Catalonia, Extremadura, Andalusia, the Basque Country and Madrid.
In addition, regions in Portugal were affected by the blackout.
According to the network operator, a seaplane is said to have damaged the lines.
Problems also arose at Barcelona Airport: the luggage belts stood still.
Luggage could no longer be processed, arriving passengers waited in vain for their suitcases, as the "Tagesschau" reports.
Accordingly, people got stuck in elevators in Madrid, and occasionally they had to be freed by firefighters.
Overall, however, there were no major incidents due to the power failure.
